(Sporting Alert) — David Villa has setup Lionel Messi to score for Barcelona and give the Spanish giants a 1-0 lead over Cordoba in the Copa del Rey clash at El Arcángel.

Villa, who started with Messi and Pedro in the Barcelona attack, was set free down the left hand side and the Spanish international returned a well weighted pass into the path of his Argentine teammate, who tapped home off the inside cross bar in the 11th minute.

The goal was Messi’s 87th in the 2012 calendar year, although he almost fired it over the goal.

Villa has been excellent so far playing out left – making some very useful runs to put the Cordoba defenders under pressure.

Barcelona are without Andrés Iniesta, Víctor Valdes and Adriano, who are all being rested, as well as the injured Cesc Fabregas.

Córdoba Team: Saizar, José Fernández, Gaspar, Alberto, Fuentes, López Garai, Caballero, Pedro, Fede Vico, Dubarbier, Rennella

FCBarcelona Team: lineup: Pinto, Alves, Piqué, Mascherano, Jordi Alba, Song, Xavi, Thiago, Pedro, Messi and Villa.
Subs: Puyol, Alexis, Jonathan dos Santos, Busquets, Montoya, Oier, Tello
