BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (Sporting Alert) — Lionel Messi was on the scoresheet and Argentina thumped Ecuador 4-0 in their South America World Cup 2014 qualifier on Saturday night.

Before Messi score though, Sergio Aguero gave Argentina the lead in the 20th minute with a nice finish past the goalkeeper, following a good pass from received a great pass from Angel Di Maria.
Real Madrid forward Gonzalo Higuain then combined with Messi to score the hosts second goal in the 30th minute.
The two then combined again for their team’s third, this time Higuain playing a nice 1-2 pass for Messi to hit home into the top corner of the net.
Di Maria then completed the hammering with a powerhouse finish in the 76th minute as Argentina jumped to the top of South America table standings with 10 points.
The win was the third in a row in qualifiers for Alejandro Sabella’s side.
Elsewhere, Uruguay give up a 1-0 lead after Diego Forlan scored and had to settled for a 1-1 draw with the visiting Venezuela, for who Salomon Rondon scored in the 85th.
Chile, through goals from Charles Aranguiz and Arturo Vidal beat 10-man Bolivia 2-0.
