MANCHESTER (Sporting Alert) — Manchester United has been linked with a move for Real Madrid playmaker Mesut Ozil, following reports in the Sun that the Germany star remains unsettled with the Spanish La Liga champions.
Sir Alex Ferguson was heavily linked with Ozil before he decided to join the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Kaka at Madrid, but it is now believed that the 24-year-old, who transferred from Werder Bremen two years ago, is considering his future away from the Spanish club.
With the aging Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs almost certain to end their careers at the end of this season, United is desperate to find quality replacements in midfield.
Luka Modric, Eden Hazard and Lucas Moura all slipped through Ferguson’s fingers during the summer transfer window, but the experienced boss continues to look for quality players that could improve the weakest part of his squad.
There have been talks about Inter Milan’s Wesley Sneijder, but the Premier League club is no longer interested in the Dutch star, following the purchase of Shinji Kagawa.
Ozil, no longer a first choice in Jose Mourinho’s side, could be the perfect fit for a Manchester United side, still searching to find a creative midfield player of his quality.
