OMAHA, Nebraska — No. 6 nationally ranked Mississippi State and No. 7 Louisville will battle in an elimination game Thursday at the 2019 NCAA College World Series at TD Ameritrade Park Omaha.

Both teams are seeking to advance at College World Series for a rematch against No. 2 ranked Vanderbilt, which has registered respective wins over each of the two clubs already in Omaha.

Thursday’s game between the Cardinals and the Diamond Dawgs is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET and ESPN2 will provide the live television coverage. Louisville (50-17) stayed alive in the tournament after securing a 5-3 victory over Auburn in an elimination game on Wednesday.

Speaking after his team held out for its sixth 50-win season in program history, head coach Dan McDonnell said credit his players for the hard work they’ve put in.

“It’s not easy winning out here, and they don’t give you anything,” McDonnell said. “You’ve got to earn it.

“So I’m really proud of these guys right here and their teammates for how hard they fought.”

Mississippi State, in the meantime, experienced a 6-3 loss to the Commodores on Wednesday afternoon at TD Ameritrade Park Omaha.

The Diamond Dawgs (52-14) fell behind early after Vanderbilt’s Stephen Scott belted MSU starting pitcher Peyton Plumlee for a one-out solo home run to right field at the top of the second.

They then found themselves trailing 6-0 in the fifth inning after the Commodores added five more runs in the top of the fifth.

Mississippi State scored one run in the sixth and two in the seventh to trim the lead to 6-3, but came up short.
