NAIA Men’s Soccer Championships: Rio Grande beat Embry-Riddle (Fla.) on penalties

No. 5 Rio Grande (Ohio) defeated No. 12 Embry-Riddle (Fla.) on penalty kicks to advance to the quarterfinals of the 2013 NAIA Men’s Soccer National Championship on Tuesday.

Montgomery, Ala. (Sporting Alert) — No. 5 Rio Grande (Ohio) defeated No. 12 Embry-Riddle (Fla.) on penalty kicks to advance to the quarterfinals of the 2013 NAIA Men’s Soccer National Championship on Tuesday.

Both teams plays played to a 1-1 tie in regulation and extra times.

Rio Grande (Ohio) went on to win 6-5 on penalty kicks.

The means that Rio Grande (Ohio) advances to the quarterfinals and set up a date with No. 4 Ashford (Iowa) at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday.

Embry-Riddle (Fla.) was eliminated from the championship and ends its season 14-3-1.
