SPORTING ALERT – The following are scores and results from the NBA preseason games that took place on Tuesday, Oct. 6. Seven preseason games were played.
CELTIC 124, MILANO 91
MILAN, Italy — Five players scored in double figures and the Boston Celtics cruised to a 124-91 victory over Olimpia Milano in a preseason game at the Mediolanum Forum on Tuesday.
Isaiah Thomas scored 18 points, four assists and three steals from off the bench to lead the way for the Celtics, who led 61-44 at half-time.
Jared Sullinger had 14 points and four rebounds and Avery Bradley finished with 14 points as well on 4-for-6 shooting, including 4-for-4 from three-pointers.
David Lee chipped in with 13 points, seven rebounds, and three assists and Marcus Smart ended with 11 points, six assists and two steals in the win for Boston.
The Celtics, who will take on Real Madrid in Spain in the second game of their tour of Europe, on Thursday, shot 46-of-82 for 56.1 percent from the field.
Houston Rockets linked guard Alessandro Gentile led Olimpia Milano with 19 points.
Charles Jenkins finished with 14 points on 6-for-9 shooting, including 2-for-2 from three-pointers, while Robbie Hummel added 12 points and seven rebounds.
WIZARDS 129, 76ERS 95
WASHINGTON — The Washington Wizards used a big second half and a solid all-around performance to score a comfortable 129-95 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers at Verizon Center, in Washington, DC.
Otto Porter Jr. led the way with 22 points on 8-for-10 shooting, including 4-for-4 from three-point range, while pulling five rebounds.
Bradley Beal shot 9-for-13 from the floor on his way to scoring 19 points, Gary Neal scored 13 points and Nene Hilario and DeJuan Blair each had 12 points in the win for the Wizards, who outscored the 76ers 38-18 in the third quarter.
As a team, Washington shot 57.7 percent from three-point range and 50.0 percent from the floor overall.
Ramon Sessions shot 3-for-4 from the floor for 11 points and dished out 10 assists, while John Wall finished with 10, nine assists, three steals and four turnovers in 20 minutes.
Nerlens Noel and Isaiah Canaan each scored 13 points for the Philadelphia 76ers, who had cut a 15 point deficit to just two-points at halftime.
Rookie Jahlil Okafor, who was 4-for-4 in the first quarter, finished with 12 points on 6-for-10 shooting overall in the defeat.
BULLS 105, BUCKS 95
CHICAGO — Doug McDermott and Jimmy Butler poured in 23 points apiece, and the Chicago Bulls earned a preseason 105-95 victory over the Milwaukee Bucks.
New head coach Fred Hoiberg, who replaced Tom Thibodeau was making his debut with the Bulls.
Butler, who shot 7-of-12 from the floor, also had six assists.
Nikola Mirotic finished with 18 points, eight rebounds and three assists for Chicago, which scored 40 points in the third quarter.
Rashad Vaughn scored 20 points on 8-for-14 shooting to lead the Milwaukee Bucks, while Miles Plumlee had 12 points and Damien Inglis finished with 11 points and nine rebounds.
PACERS 115, PISTONS 112
AUBURN HILLS — Paul George knocked down 24 of his 32 points in the first half, including 20 in just the first quarter alone and the Indiana Pacers held off the Detroit Pistons for a 115-112 preseason victory on Tuesday night.
George shot 10-for-17 from the floor and connected on five of his nine three-point attempts in 24 minutes.
Joseph Young had 18 points and Glenn Robinson III finished with 13 – both off the bench for the Pacers, who are 1-1 in exhibitions this term.
Kentavious Caldwell-Pope scored 22 points and went 6-for-7 from 3-point range to lead the way for the Pistons, while rookie Stanley Johnson collected 26 points in the defeat.
Andre Drummond had 16 points and nine rebounds and former LA Lakers guard Jodie Meeks added 15 points for Detroit, which was playing its preseason season opener.
JAZZ 117, LA LAKERS 114
HONOLULU, HI — Guard Alec Burks scored six of his 27 points in overtime and the Utah Jazz beat the Los Angeles Lakers 117-114 at Stan Sheriff Center in Honolulu, Hawaii, to go 2-0 in preseason.
LA Lakers second overall pick D’Angelo Russell went down with 7:42 left in the first quarter after landing hard on his back in the paint. He was taken to the locker room and did not return to the game.
Burks, who shot 9-for-14 from the field, had six assists, five rebounds and three steals, while Rodney Hood finished with 21 points.
Trey Burke collected 15 points and five assists in the win for Utah.
Lou Williams scored 20 points off the bench and Roy Hibbert added 16 points and 11 rebounds for the Los Angeles Lakers, who were beaten 90-71 by the Jazz in the first game on Sunday.
Julius Randle finished with 16 points, while Kobe Bryant scored 13 points in the defeat for the Lakers.
