No. 12 DUKE 65, No. 14 VIRGINIA 55

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — Jayson Tatum scored 21 of his career-high 28 points in the second half and No. 12 Duke beat No. 14 Virginia on Wednesday night.

Tatum, who shot 8-of-12 from the field overall, hit six 3-pointers, including five in the second half, as the Blue Devils (21-5, 9-4 Atlantic Coast Conference) pulled away late to secure their sixth straight victory.

“Credit to my teammates,” the star freshman, who also grabbed eight rebounds, said during an interview with ESPN’s SportsCenter after the game.

“Any given night, we have guys on this team that can explode on offense,” he added.

Luke Kennard added 16 points with seven rebounds for Duke, which shot 45.2 percent from the floor.

London Perrantes scored 14 points to lead Virginia (18-7, 8-5) with Ty Jerome adding 13 and Isaiah Wilkins pulling down nine rebounds before fouling out.

The Cavaliers, who next face ACC leader and No. 10 North Carolina, have lost two straight and four in six games overall.

RALEIGH, N.C. — Joel Berry II scored 18 points on 7-of-11 shooting and dished out six assists and 10th-ranked North Carolina beat rival North Carolina State 97-73 in a college basketball score on Wednesday night.

Kennedy Meeks added 17 points on 8-of-12 shooting with eight rebounds, Justin Jackson scored 14 points and Luke Maye ended with a career-high 13 points and seven rebounds for the Tar Heels (22-5, 10-3).

Theo Pinson contributed 12 points for North Carolina, which bounced back from the defeat to Duke and stayed in first place in the Atlantic Coast Conference standings.

Star freshman guard Dennis Smith Jr. scored 27 points – his 12th 20-point showing of the season – and dished out six assists to lead NC State

Maverick Rowan added 12 points and Abdul-Malik Abu finished with 10 points and seven boards for the Wolfpack (14-13, 3-11).

NC State, which sits second from bottom in the ACC standings with just three wins in conference play, fell behind 82-57 with 7:17 left in the game on its way to losing for the sixth straight time.
