KANSAS, Sporting Alert – The following is the ESPN3 schedule for the men’s college basketball games taking place on Tuesday, November 29.
No. 4 Kansas and No. 21 Rhode Island are the ranked teams listed on the schedule.
The Jayhawks (5-1) will take on Long Beach State at Allen Fieldhouse in Lawrence, searching for their fifth successive win since losing their season opener to Indiana.
Long Beach State (1-7) is playing hoping to pick up its first win on the road this season but will have to do it as a 25-point underdog.
In their last game Friday night, the Jayhawks collected a 95-57 victory over UNC Asheville, with Frank Mason III scoring 21 points, with five assists and five rebounds and Udoka Azubuike added 17 in his first career start.
Long Beach State wasn’t as fortunate in its outing, though, after losing 68-67 in overtime to Florida Gulf Coast on Friday night in a Battle 4 Atlantis campus game.
The Big West preseason favourite was losing for the seventh straight time this season.
After beating Cal State-Los Angeles at home to open the term the 49ers have been beaten by Wichita State, North Carolina, Louisville, UCLA, Washington, Binghamton and Florida Gulf Coast.
When they lineup against Kansas, it will be their fourth opponent this campaign ranked in the AP Top 25 and the eighth-straight game away from home.
It’s been a gruelling start for Long Beach State, which has one of the toughest early-season schedules in the country and head coach Dan Monson thinks it could affect his young players.
“I’m really concerned about them mentally because of all the years I’ve done this,” Monson told the Orange County Register.
“This has been the hardest stretch and this team was not ready for it.”
Forward Gabe Levin is averaging 13 points, 7.6 rebounds and shooting 47.1 percent from the floor per game.
Kansas leads the all-time series 3-1, but the 49ers had a signature upset victory over then-No. 1 Jayhawks in Allen Fieldhouse, 64-49, on Jan. 25, 1993.
Meanwhile, No. 21 Rhode Island returns to winning ways after the Duke setback and the Rams will be looking to build another winning streak when they face Valparaiso at Athletics-Recreation Center in Indiana.
Hassan Martin scored a career-high 31 points and Jarvis Garrett added a season-high 23 to help Rhode Island defeat Belmont College 82-73 on Friday night.
Martin leads the Rams (5-1) in scoring with 16.5 points, rebounding (7.0) and blocks (4.5) per game and is shooting a high percentage from the floor (71.4).
Valparaiso has won three straight and six of its seven games this season, with the only defeat coming against then-No. 4 Oregon on Nov 17.
Alec Peters is averaging 25.1 points and 9.1 rebounds per game to lead the Crusaders (6-1).
This game is streaming live on ESPN3 and WatchESPN, starting at 8:00 pm ET.
