Frisco, TX — Calvin Turner returned a kickoff 92 yards for a touchdown to help Hawai’i scored a 28-14 victory over Houston in the New Mexico Bowl on Thursday.

Turner picked up the kickoff inside his own 10 before wiggling away from several Houston defenders on his way to scoring with 3:29 left in the third quarter to give the Rainbow Warriors (6-4) their 14 point lead.
The senior running back also rushed 12 for 60 yards and took four catches for 88 yards and a touchdown for Hawai’i, which finished the campaign with a winning record for the third successive season. This matched the achievements of the 2001-04 seasons.
Chevan Cordeiro completed 15 of 23 passes for 136 yards and three touchdowns. Besides connecting with Turner, Cordeiro threw TD passes to Dae Dae Hunter and Jonah Laulu.
Hawai’i opened the scoring when Cordeiro passed the Hunter for a 3-yard touchdown before finding Turner from 75 yards for another score to make it 14-0 in the first quarter.
The Rainbow Warriors extended their lead to 21-0 when Laulu caught a pass for a four yard touchdown in the second quarter.
However, after the break, Houston scored twice when quarterback Clayton Tune passed to Nathaniel Dell and Christian Trahan to cut the score to 21-14 with 3:45 left in the third before Turner completed the kickoff return to seal the win for Hawai’i.
Tune finished 20 of 38 passes for 216 yards with two touchdowns and three interceptions for Houston.
Dell caught six passes for 112 yards and Trahan took five catches for 88 yards in the defeat for the Cougars (3-6), who were suffering consecutive losing seasons for the first time since 2000-02.
