(Sporting Alert) — After an impressive victory over Long Beach State on Wednesday night, No. 2 Baylor go in search of another win the NIT Tournament against No. 3 Arizona State on Friday night.
Brady Heslip scored 26 points in the one-sided 112-66 victory for the Bears (19-14) over the 49ers (19-14), in a game the winner shot 69.6-percent from three-point range on 16-23 shooting.
Heslip was responsible for eight of those, after going 8-for-11 from long range.
Baylor were also impressive from the field overall, shooting 63.5-percent on 40-63.
“In 30 years of coaching basketball, this is as noncompetitive as I have ever had a team,” Long Beach State coach Dan Monson said after his team was totally outclassed.
Arizona State were also an easy winner in the first round, following the 83-68 result over No. 6 Detroit on Wednesday night.
Jahii Carson and Carrick Felix combined for 43 of the Sun Devils’ total points and could be a handful for the Bears on Friday.
Elsewhere in the NIT Tournament on Friday night, No. 7 Stony Brook seek another win when they face No. 3 Iowa.
Iowa beat the Indiana State Sycamores 68-52 in their first round game on Wednesday night, while Stony Brook came away with a comfortable 71-58 victory over the Massachusetts Minutemen.
