ARLINGTON, Texas (3-December) —— Ty Zentner's 31-yard field goal in overtime helped Kansas State stun No. 3 TCU on Saturday to win the 2022 Big 12 Championship title 31-28, as the upsets in Championship Week continued. Click here For game stats
Kansas State took over possession with the game locked at 28 apiece after TCU failed to score in overtime play after the No. 10 Wildcats stopped the Horned Frogs on fourth down on the one-yard line. Zentner then kicked the winning field goal with the game's final play to win Kansas State the conference title for the first time in a decade.
"Rise up, rise up. When people doubt you rise up," Kansas State head coach Chris Klieman said in his after-game interview with ABC when asked about the stop in overtime by his team. "We were destined to be here and our kids rose up today."
"We won the Big 12. Are you kidding me," added an elated Klieman.
Today's defeat here at the AT&T Stadium means the Horned Frogs TCU (12-1) who were losing for the first time this season, must now wait another day to find out if their body of work is enough to keep their spot in the top four-team of College Football Playoff Rankings. The final rankings will come out at Noon ET on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Will Howard threw two TD passes and completed 18 of 32 for 199 yards, and Deuce Vaughn ran for 130 yards and a touchdown for the Wildcats (10-3).
Max Duggan was 18 for 36 on passes for 251 yards and a touchdown with one interception, while running 15 times for 110 more yards and another score for TCU.
