“We’re taking pride in making people respect us,” Rodriguez said.

He added: “I like playing the powerhouses. That’s what we come to the ACC for.

“Coach L [Jim Larranaga] is always preaching about just having fun playing the game.

“A lot of credit too goes to the crowd. They were great.”

Brandon Ingram, who scored in double-digits for the 14th straight game, led Duke with 19 points and 10 rebounds and Grayson Allen finished with 17 points for the Blue Devils who were suffering their fourth loss in the past five games.

“We’ve had a chance in every game,” Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski said. “That’s all I’m looking for.

“The winning effort has been there the entire time.”

Matt Jones scored 10 points and Marshall Plumlee finished with seven points and nine boards for the defending champions who continue to be without star forward Amile Jefferson because of an injury.

Miami has now won four of six games in the series since Larranaga became head coach of the Hurricanes. They were 2-15 against Duke before hiring Larranaga.

Up next for the Duke Blue Devils is a game at Georgia Tech on Feb. 2, while the Miami Hurricanes are at North Carolina State on Saturday.
