Sunday, February 10 – Football scores

Manchester United 2 Everton 0
Ryan Giggs and Robin van Persie scored in the first half and Manchester United beat Everton 2-0 at Old Trafford on Sunday to go 12 points clear in the EPL standings with 65 points. The defeat may have dented Everton’s hopes of finishing in the top four and win a Champions League spot.

Aston Villa 2 West Ham United 1
Also on Sunday, a second half penalty from Christian Benteke and blistering free-kick by Charles N’Zogbia led Aston Villa to a 2-1 win over West Ham United to lift themselves out of the relegation zone and handed manager Paul Lambert a valuable win to ease some of the pressure.

Saturday, February 9 – Football scores

Southampton 3 Manchester City 1
On Saturday, defending champions Manchester City were stunned 3-1 at Southampton, following a collection of errors from goalkeeper Joe Hart. The defeat sees Man City stuck on 53pts in the Premier League standings, leaving their chance of retaining the title all but over.

Chelsea 4 Wigan Athletic 1
Rafa Benitez Chelsea FC side stayed third with a 4-1 win over Wigan, who have fallen into the relegation and battling hard for survival. Frank Lampard and Marko Marin were both on target late for Chelsea.

Swansea City 4 Queens Park Rangers 1
Spanish striker Michu fired home twice in Swansea City easy 4-1 win over Queens Park Ranger, piling more misery on Harry Redknapp’s side, which continues to be the leading team to be relegated from the top flight. QPR <span class=are at the bottom of the EPL standings with just 17pts from 26 games and with their schedule only getting tougher, it looks unlikely that they will avoid the drop zone.

Gareth Bale was the hero in Tottenham’s 2-1 win over Newcastle. Spurs stayed fourth in the Premier League table standings with 48pts, one behind Chelsea FC and keep its push for a Champions League spot alive. Newcastle remained 16th with 27pts.

Sunderland 0 Arsenal 1
Arsenal had to work hard, but Arsene Wenger’s men did what was asked of them in the battling 1-0 victory over Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on Saturday. Santi Cazorla scored the winner for Arsenal, while defender Carl Jenkinson was sent off in the second half for picking up two yellow cards.

Stoke City 2 Reading 1
