LONDON (Sporting Alert) The following are the English Premier League fixtures on New Year’s Day. The midweek fixtures, although not as intense as the Boxing Day action last Wednesday, have setup some interesting matchups.

The action starts with Fulham traveling to face West Bromwich at The Hawthorns in the early game before five games kick-off at 10:00 am ET.

Leaders Manchester United go to Wigan looking to maintain its seven point advantage on the fast travelers, while defending champions Manchester City face a tricky home clash against Stoke City, with both teams going off big scoring games.

On form Tottenham will go in search of another win when they host Reading at White Hart Lane, a troubling Aston Villa will be hoping to forget the Christmas period when they leaked in 15 goals, including eight against Chelsea.

West Ham and Norwich, two teams desperate for a New Year’s Day win, face each other in a game that is being backed to bring goals.

The red-hot Theo Walcott and Arsenal will play Southampton in the final game on the day with the England striker looking forward to facing his former team after netting a hat trick in a brutal 7-3 victory over Newcastle United at the weekend.

“If someone said beforehand that it would be 7-3 I would have just laughed, but it was an unbelievable spectacle and for it to be the last game of this year is something special,” Walcott said on

“I am delighted [to get another hat trick]. For the first goal I managed to stay onside and Lukas played a great ball, and I opened up for the sort of finish that I am used to.”

He added: “It will be a very tough occasion against Southampton, but it is one I am really looking forward to.

“I am probably going to wrap myself in bubble wrap for the next few days!
