PRESEASON: Arsenal loanee Afobe nets hat-trick for Bolton

(Sporting Alert) — Arsenal on loan striker Benik Afobe scored a hat-trick for Bolton in their preseason 3-1 warm-up win over Tranmere Rovers on Tuesday.

Afobe, who is on a season long loan from Arsenal, as Arsene Wenger seek to give him as much playing time as possible, netted all three goal in the second half after coming on.

The tall 19-year-old opened the scoring in the 50th minute, before added another in 75th minute of play.

He then completed his hat-trick for Bolton, two-minute later with a clinical low shot from the edge of the penalty area.

Max Power scored a late consolation for Tranmere Rovers after his corner was deflected into the net off a defender just before the end of the game.

“It was another good run out and another opportunity to step up our fitness levels,” Bolton manager Owen Coyle said.

“We rotated through the squad again, because the whole purpose of pre-season matches is to get game time and I was pleased with our all-round performance.

“We were disappointed with our showing against Portsmouth and I said I wanted a reaction.

“We had a good first half and then kicked on in the second. We want to be bedding in good habits at this stage and ensure we get to our maximum.”
