Pre-season football results: July 14

(Sporting Alert) — Barclays Premier League sides West Ham United, Reading, Everton and Aston Villa all recorded pre-season victories on Saturday.

Newly promoted Premier League sides West Ham and Reading were easy winners on the day.

Reading, courtesy of a hat-trick from striker Simon Church hammered AFC Wimbledon 7-0 for the biggest win on the day.

Adam Le Fondre was also on target, as he netted a first half brace, while Michail Antonio and Jordan Obita added to the tally as well.

Royals boss Brian McDermott afterwards was full of praise for Church and his team.

“I’m delighted for Churchy, we all know what a great guy he is. All of the players know that, the staff around him, he’s a fantastic guy to work with every day,” McDermott said.

“It was a fantastic finish from Alfie for his second, and then Churchy ‘s finishes were really good goals. I was delighted for him and the whole group, everyone involved.

“The game was really good, I thought the players showed a fabulous attitude in both halves. We used 23 players and it shows we’ve got what we think is a good group.”

West Ham beat Southend United 3-0 with Nicky Maynard, Jordan Spence and Sam Baldock getting on the scoresheet today.

Aston Villa defeated Burton Albion 2-1, while Everton, through goals from Francisco Junior, Apostolos Vellios, Jack Rodwell and Victor Anichebe cruised past Morecambe 4-1.
