Preseason NFL Scores on Week 1 – August 15

TEXAS, Sporting Alert – The Kansas City Chiefs recovered from a slow start to beat the Arizona Cardinals 34-19 in an NFL preseason game on Saturday.

Arizona raced out tp a 10-0 lead in the first quarter, but were then held scoreless until the last quarter, as the Chiefs dominated and put up the next 31 points after the weak start of their opening warmup fixture.

Backup quarterback Chase Daniel paced the way for Kansas City as he went 17-of-29 for 189 yards and three touchdowns and no interceptions in two quarters of play on Saturday.

Starter Alex Smith, who was intercepted on the Chiefs’ first possession, was 6-of-10 for 42 yards.

“The ones could have been sharper,” Chiefs coach Andy Reid said. “… The twos and threes played tremendous and they moved the ball.

“Chase did a nice job with that group.”

Fred Williams collected six catches for 82 yards and a touchdown, while Da’Ron Brown and Darrin Reaves also scoring for the Chiefs in the preseason victory.

Meanwhile, for the Cardinals, third-string quarterback Logan Thomas completed 9 of 15 for 107 yards and one interception.

Carson Palmer, who returns from a bad injury last season, completed all four of his passes for 77 yards and he was delighted to be back to playing again.

“It’s great to be back and play on this grass again in front of our fans and in our stadium,” Palmer said.

“It’s been a long time coming. It’s been a lot of days since I saw this day in the future.”

Also grabbing NFL preseason wins in Week 1 on Saturday were the Houston Texans and the Minnesota Vikings.

At NRG Stadium in Texas, Houston grabbed a 23-10 victory over the San Francisco 49ers, while the Vikings picked up its second win of the 2015 preseason campaign, following a 26-16 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at TCF Bank Stadium.

Lots of eyes were on rookie quarterback Jameis Winston, who had a mixed outing on debut for Tampa Bay.

The former Florida State star man made a sluggish start to his first NFL appearance – finishing with 9 of 19 for 131 yards and a threw an interception. He also had an eight-yard drive for a score in the second quarter.
