LONDON (Sporting Alert) — Manchester City will start favourites to beat QPR in their Barclays Premier League game at Loftus Road Stadium on Tuesday night.
The defending champions are five points behind Manchester United, but would pull within two points of the leaders with a victory on the road.
Manchester City will be without leading center half and captain Vincent Kompany, who has been ruled out of the game with a calf injury.
There is also concern over the availability of defender Matija Nastasic, who is doubtful with a knee problem.
Forward Sergio Aguero could return to the starting line-up at the expense of Edin Dzeko, while Mario Balotelli could also miss the game, following reports that he is set for talks with Serie A sides Juventus and AC Milan.
Samir Nasri could return for the game after recovering from an injury, but brothers Yaya Toure and Kolo Toure continue to be on national duties at the Africa Cup of Nations.
Goalkeeper Joe Hart will also return to the starting lineup.
QPR, in the meantime, will recall striker Loic Remy for the game after he was rested during Saturday’s FA Cup embarrassing defeat to MK Dons.
Defender Ryan Nelsen is also set to feature in his last EPL game with reports saying that he will leave to start his managing career with MLS side Toronto on Friday.
The game is expected to be a very tough one for QPR and manager Harry Redknapp as admitted to this.
“We have had some hard games lately, we went to Chelsea, Tottenham at home and West Ham away, we performed well and we have to do the same tomorrow,” he said.
QPR are sitting at the bottom of the Barclays Premier League standings and will be hoping for another upset win like the one they pulled off against Chelsea.
Redknapp also confirmed that he will be making changes from the last team.
“It’ll be a different team on Tuesday and we’ll be ready,” he said.
“People who saw the Liverpool game [a 3-0 defeat on 31 December] will have thought ‘That’s the end of QPR’ but we came back against Chelsea and Tottenham and then went to West Ham and drew.”
PREDICTIONS: Manchester City 1-0
SKY BET: QPR are at 16/1 to grab a 1-0, while Manchester City are at 6/1 for a similar score.
