Real and Atletico brace for exciting Madrid derby

MADRID (Sporting Alert) — Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho is desperate for a win against Atletico Madrid in the Madrid derby of the season at the Bernabéu on Saturday.

Also playing in the Spanish League on Saturday are leaders Barcelona, who will meet Athletic, while Getafe v Malaga and Valencia vs Real Sociedad are also on.

But the derby will be where it’s at this weekend, and Mourinho is expecting difficulties for both sides looking for points to stay on track.

“Atletico will come up against the difficulties of facing a Real Madrid team who want to keep the winning streak in the derbies going,” the Madrid boss said on

Real Madrid’s difficulties will be that Atletico will want to end that streak. They want to take advantage of their good momentum and to keep winning and break that losing streak.

Real Madrid are coming off of a loss in a match that was not good and want to win and keep that streak. On a footballing level I think that it is an interesting time.”

Mourinho added: “A derby is a derby, it doesn’t matter where you are in the table. Last season we were far ahead, but we knew it was a derby and that anything could happen, we have always respected them.

“It will always be a derby, an Atletico Madrid against Real Madrid, a match that players want to play and that the fans want to see.”

The derby clash will bring some of the stars in La Liga on the pitch, with the spotlight expected to be on Radamel Falcao and Diego Costa for Atletico and Cristiano Ronaldo, Xabi Alonso and Iker Casillas for Real Madrid.

Mourinho could start Kaka instead of Mesut Ozil, although he hinted that it may very well be Luka Modric.
