Jose Mourinho’s men are 11 points behind Barcelona, who plays on Sunday, so a win tonight would cut that gap to eight.

On form attacking midfielder Jose Callejon was handed a starting place for Real Madrid and he will play alongside the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Mesut Ozil and Karim Benzema as the visitors’ main attack line, with Sami Khedira and Xabi Alonso playing the holding role in the central area.

Defender Nacho has been handed his first start this season and will play in a backline that also includes Pepe and Sergio Ramos.

Kaka, Luka Modric, Michael Essien and Angel di Maria are all amongst the substitutes for tonight’s game.

Former Manchester United forward Manucho is amongst the starter for Real Valladolid.

He has scored four goals already this season.
