Real Madrid seek to avenge defeat to Borussia Dortmund

MADRID (Sporting Alert) — Jose Mourinho has named his squad for Real Madrid’s Champions League Group D game against Borussia Dortmund at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium on Tuesday night.

Cristiano Ronaldo, Kaka, Luka Modric, Pepe, Mesut Ozil, Xabi Alonso and Sergio Ramos, are all included in the 20 man squad for the game.

Real Madrid were beaten by Dortmund when these two teams last met and the visiting side’s defender Marcel Schmelzer says they are bracing for a Champions League backlash from the Spanish champions.

“The Real players were all really angry after losing at our place and they are going to try to run us down, but we will resist,” said Schmelzer.

Real Madrid cannot afford to lose again on Tuesday and German midfielder Sami Khedira is confident the Spanish giants will take care of business.

Real Madrid and one other team will go through,” a confident Khedira said. “I’ll leave that open.

“But obviously for me, as a German, it would be great if Dortmund qualify because I think they also deserve it.

“They have been German champions two years running and are now playing very well in the Champions League.

“Personally I would be very happy for them. Although what I hope is that Real Madrid finish in first place, and the rest does not matter to me.”

Meanwhile, Mourinho confirmed that Karim Benzema is hurt and is out of the game, adding that defender Raphael Varane will start.

“Benzema is injured and Varane will be in the first 11. Karim has an abductor muscle problem. He’s out. I don’t know for how long, but he’s out for tomorrow.”

REAL MADRID SELECTION:
Goalkeepers: Casillas, Adan, and Jesús.
Defenders: Arbeloa, Varane, Pepe, Sergio Ramos, Nacho, Carvalho, and Albiol.
Midfielders: Kaka, Xabi Alonso, Álex, Özil, Essien, Modric, Callejón, and Di María.
Forwards: Cristiano Ronaldo, and Higuaín.
