SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — Filip Rebraca had a career-high 26 points to lead North Dakota to a close 75-71 victory over South Dakota in a Summit League opener for both teams on Thursday night.
Rebraca shot a very efficient 10-for-15 from open play and grabbed six rebounds in 33 minutes.
The junior from Sombor, Serbia, was improving his previous best of 24 points, which he did twice during the 2019-2020 season.
It was the second Rebraca was scoring over 20 points this season for the Fighting Hawks (1-3), following his 23 points performance in a 76-67 losing effort against Minnesota last Friday.
Tyree Ihenacho had 12 points, nine rebounds and three steals and shot 5-for-8 from the field, while Mitchell Sueker added 11 points and six rebounds for North Dakota, which was winning for the first time after losing the first three games to start the season.
Caleb Nero had 10 points on 4-for-9 shooting in the victory.
Stanley Umude paced South Dakota with a game-high 30 points and connected on 5 of his 9 attempts from 3-point range. He also had five rebounds and shot 12-for-25 from the field.
Xavier Fuller added 15 points on 6-for-11 shooting, while A.J. Plitzuweit had eight assists and Brady Heiman, Stanley Umude and Tasos Kamateros each had five rebounds for the Coyotes (0-4), who have lost all four of their games to start the season.
