LOS ANGELES (Sporting Alert) — The Los Angeles Lakers decision to sidestep Phil Jackson and hire Mike D’Antoni as the replacement for the departing Mike Brown stunned the club’s former coach, reports claimed.
According to an ESPN Los Angeles report, Jackson was set to accept the Lakers’ offer and return for his third stint with the club on Monday if negotiations between his representative and the club went according to his plans.
However, the veteran coach, ESPN Los Angeles said, was left stunned when the Lakers contacted him to let him know of their decision to go with former New York Knicks coach D’Antoni.
