MANCHESTER (Sporting Alert) — Despite scoring for Chelsea in the Europa League in midweek, Fernando Torres returns to the bench for today’s Barclays Premier League clash with Manchester United.

Torres returns to the bench and Demba Ba starts instead as Chelsea look to secure points in the race for Champions League spot for next season.

Manager Rafa Benitez also recalled Ashley Cole, while playmakers Juan Mata and Oscar are also named in his starting line-up.

John Terry and Gary Cahill are both on the bench, with Frank Lampard starting.

Manchester United, meanwhile, left Wayne Rooney and Rio Ferdinand on the bench for the clash.

David De Gea, Javier Hernandez, Paul Scholes and Shinji Kagawa are also on the bench as the likes of Anders Lindegaard, Tom Cleverley and Anderson all get a run out.

Michael Carrick and Nani are left out altogether.
