MANCHESTER (Sporting Alert) — Wayne Rooney and Javier Hernandez are set to start Manchester United in their English FA Cup clash with Fulham on Saturday, as Sir Alex Ferguson continues to rotate his strikers.
Rooney started as a substitute in the 1-1 domestic league draw with Tottenham last week, while Hernandez was an unused substitute for the game.
However, the pair will start the FA Cup clash at Old Trafford, with Ferguson hoping to rest his hitman Robin van Persie.
Goalkeeper David de Gea is also set to be replaced by Anders Lindegaard, who started in the replay win against the West Ham United.
Ferguson has confirmed that he will name a strong side for the contest as he seeks to win the competition.
“We haven’t done as well in the FA Cup for a few years now,” Fergie said on Manchester United official website www.manutd.com.
“It’s a cup which has fantastic appeal given our record in it. We have benefit of the home draw.
“We’ll take that any time. It’s going to be a challenge for us but we would play anyone at the moment.”
The game will see former Man United forward Dimitar Berbatov going up against his former employers and Ferguson has labeled the forward as a quality player.
“Berbatov is Fulham’s best player. I don’t think he was a failure here,” he said. “He was a good player.
“At his age it’s not easy to be not playing when I have lots of choices.
“He wanted first-team football and it was the right thing to do. I think he’s doing well there.”
Manchester United have defeated Fulham in the last four meetings, including a thrilling 3-2 victory in the English Premier League in August.
