Rooney missed the midweek League Cup win over Stoke City with an injury, but has return to lead the attack and will again play alongside fellow England international Danny Welbeck, who scored twice against Aston Villa in the last EPL fixture last weekend.
Tom Cleverley and Phil Jones play in the center of the midfield, while Jonny Evans and Chris Smalling are paired at center-back.
Ryan Giggs, Javier Hernandez, Ashley Young, Darren Fletcher and Shinji Kagawa all start on the bench.
West Ham, meanwhile, keeps faith with goalkeeper Adrian, who played in midweek in the League Cup win over Tottenham, with Jussi Jaaskelainen starting on the bench.
Modibo Maiga, a scorer in midweek, Mohamed Diame, Matthew Taylor, Ravel Morrison and Matthew Jarvis are all in the West Ham starting XI.
