ST MARY’S — Manchester City Southampton in search of a much-needed English Premier League victory and manager Pep Guardiola makes five changes to the side that lost at Leicester City on Boxing Day.
The fit-again returns from injury and he starts for the champions who have 10 points to make up on leaders Liverpool after losing back-to-back games in the Christmas period.
Also in the starting City team is playmaker David Silva after he also recovered from an injury.
Captain Vincent Kompany, Riyad Mahrez and Bernardo Silva are also in the starting line-up, while the likes of Kevin De Bruyne and İlkay Gundogan are not in the squad and John and Leroy Sane are only on the bench.
There are six changes, meanwhile, to the Southampton side that lost 2-1 to West Ham in midweek.
Making a senior team debut is 18-year-old Kayne Ramsay, who comes into the side along with Jack Stephens, James Ward-Prowse, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Mohamed Elyounoussi.
The club’s leading scorer Danny Ings is among the players dropped from the starting line-up, as Charlie Austin gets the start today.
Manchester City suffered three defeats in the last four league games, a run that simply cannot continue if they have any hope of catching run-away leaders Liverpool.
