Brooklyn at Chicago looking to even series; Denver face Golden State: Live on TNT

CHICAGO (Sporting Alert) — Point guard Kirk Hinrich will not play for the Bulls in Game 6 of their NBA playoff first round series clash with the Brooklyn Nets here at the United Center in Chicago tonight.

When: Thursday, May 2, 2013
Time: 8 p.m. ET
TV Channel: TNT, YES (Brooklyn), Comcast SportsNet Chicago
Where: United Center, Chicago, Illinois

Hinrich missed the Game 5 110-91 defeat because of a calf injury and was hoping to feature tonight as the Chicago Bulls, which lead 3-2 look to close out the series.

However, Nate Robinson, despite feeling ill before the start of the game, will start again for Hinrich, who is averaging 11.25 points per game in the series.

Several Bulls fans and media outlets are again calling for the inactive Derrick Rose to return the side and help out his teammates.

Rose looks unlikely to play the rest of this season and head coach Tom Thibodeau said he and the rest of coaching staff fully support whatever decision the former NBA MVP makes.

“There is a big difference between the time of injury that he’s had and all these other injuries,” Thibodeau said. “And we certainly appreciate what all the other guys are doing, but Derrick has had a very serious injury.

“It requires time. He’s 24 years old. We’re not going to rush him back. When he’s completely comfortable, that’s when we want him out there. If that means we wait another game, if that means we wait until next year, so be it.

“We want him completely comfortable and we’re not going to make that mistake.”

In other Bulls team news, Luol Deng (illness) skipped shootaround and was a game time decision. He has been confirmed as a no go for tonight’s game. Marco Belinelli starts the game.

Brooklyn ran away easy winners in Game 1, but dropped three straight to go 3-1 one down before winning on Monday night.

“I really believe that both teams legitimately feel that they’re better than the other team,” Nets coach P.J. Carlesimo was quoted as saying. “Both think they’re capable of winning.”

In the night’s other game on TNT the Denver Nuggets will be hoping to force another game when they take on the Golden State Warriors at ORACLE Arena in Oakland.

All eyes will again be on the sharp shooting  Stephen Curry, who scored 31 points and hit a host of three-pointers when these teams last met in Oakland on Sunday night.

Tuesday night Curry was rough up and Golden State head coach Mark Jackson criticized the Nuggets players after the game.

“They’ll be physical again. They’ll try to beat up Steph Curry. They’ll try to set illegal screens. They’ll try to chuck him when he goes down the lane,” Jackson was quoted as saying.

“Other than that, I’m not sure what to expect out of them.”

Nate Robinson starts: Chicago vs Brooklyn Live Stream on TNT Over Time

Brooklyn, New York (Sporting Alert) — Nate Robinson has been confirmed as the starter for Chicago a point guard for the injured guard Kirk Hinrich in tonight’s NBA Eastern Conference First Round Game 5 playoff series clash with Brooklyn at Barclays Center.

Game Time: 7 p.m. ET, Monday, April 29, 2013
Where: Barclays Center, Brooklyn, New York

Robinson was very impressive in the Bulls’ 142-134 triple-overtime victory on Saturday after scoring 34 points in the win. He scored a stunning 23 points in the fourth quarter alone.

Chicago leads the seven game series 3-1.

Robinson starts for the injured Hinrich, who picked up a calf problem and was forced to wear a boot.

Jimmy Butler, Luol Deng, Carlos Boozer and Joakim Noah are the other starters for the Chicago Bulls.

The Brooklyn Nets, which won the first game easily, were on course to take the victory on Saturday, but collapsed.

But instead of looking back at the disappointment, coach P.J. Carlesimo wants his team to look past that defeat and focus on Monday night’s game.

“I think they are very acutely aware of the mistakes that we made and I don’t think we need that for tomorrow (Monday),” Carlesimo said Sunday.

“I think (Monday) is more positive and I think it’s really important for us to be looking ahead, not backwards, tomorrow.

“They’ll be enough motivation. They’re not going to forget what happened on Saturday, but I don’t think we need it. We need to dwell on Monday, not Saturday.”

Meanwhile, despite being delighted about the fighting spirit of his team to pick up the win in the last outing, Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau has warned his players to quickly forget that game and get the next job done.

”Well, it’s one game,” Thibodeau said. ”I like the fact that we never quit on the game. That’s been the nature of the team all season.

“They’ll keep battling. Things weren’t going our way, but there was no give-in. They just kept going.”

He added: ”The thing is, you’ve got to win different ways. They make shots. Some of the plays were defended well. We knew that going in.

“You can’t let your guard down against them. They’re a great team. They’ve shown that all year. We know we’re going to have to play our best game tomorrow.”

Dwyane Wade to play, Derrick Rose out: Chicago v Miami

CHICAGO (Sporting Alert) — Miami Heat guard Dwyane Wade says he will play tonight against the Chicago Bulls, despite his coach claiming that he would be a game time decision.

Live Coverage on ESPN and ESPN3.com/WatchESPN

Wade missed the Heat’s last two games because of a bruised right knee, but took part in the team’s morning shootaround on Wednesday after receiving treatment in Chicago the last two days.

He told the media after the light workout that would “give it a go” tonight in the United Center, as the Miami Heat look to extend its winning streak to 28 games.

“I’m going to give it a go,” Wade said after shootaround. “I had two situations that I was dealing with and one of them is gone.

“The other one [knee], I’m still dealing with and it’s not going to go away today. So I’ll get back out there to play and see how it feels.”

Chicago Bulls, in the meantime, said despite media reports, Derrick Rose will not be making his season debut tonight, while Marco Belinelli and Richard Hamilton are also out and center Joakim Noah, who is still recovering from a foot injury, remains a game-time decision.

“Same, just taking my time and that’s about it,” Rose said, speaking about his recovery from his knee injury.

“Been the same way for a couple of months now.

“I really don’t know [when I’ll return]. Like I said, it’s in God’s hands.

“Every day I’m just waking up to try to be the best player, try and produce every time I step on the court, just try to get better as a player and who knows when.”

Derrick Rose works with team on Wednesday in Orlando

ORLANDO (Sporting Alert) – Derrick Rose took a step closer to return from injury after he took part in the Chicago Bulls team work on Wednesday.

Rose, who has been doing several non-contact drills in sessions in the past few weeks, has participated with his teammates in road session for first since tearing his ACL in late April.

“It’s good,” Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau said, ahead of his team’s game at the Orlando Magic on Wednesday night.

“He’s been around the whole time. You guys don’t see him as much as everyone else does, the team does, I should say.

“So I don’t think it’s that big of a deal. It’s the next step in the progression for him. He’s getting up to speed with everything offensively, defensively, his teammates.

“It’s just the next step, and he’s got to continue the things that he’s been doing and the team has to continue to focus on our improvement and our opponent and then at some point he’ll be ready to go.

“But he still has some time to go, everyone has to be patient, but it’s good to have him around.”

Rose is still involved in some rehab sessions and expected to be out for about six weeks, so Thibodeau will not commit to a return date for his All-Star guard.

“It’s when he’s ready,” Thibodeau said of rose injury return date. “So that’s not anything that has changed from the start of the season, it’s when he’s ready.

“It’s not going to be sooner, later, ‘this is the target date,’ it’s just when he’s ready. So he’s doing practice, the predictable contact in practice, the next step will be regular practice, then he has to be able to go through regular practice for a while. And then, if everything goes well, then he plays.

“But there’s no time schedule so it’s everything according to plan. It’s just the next step. There’s several steps he has to go through.

“There’s several more that he has to go through — so everything’s going well, nothing has changed.”
