Top 25 College Basketball Schedule, TV Channels, Times: Nov. 10

DURHAM, NC, Sporting Alert — The 2017-18 NCAA college basketball season tips-off with a flooded schedule on the eve of Veterans Day, Friday (10), that will include No. 1 Duke and defending champion North Carolina.

No fewer than 20 of those games will involve teams ranked in the AP Top 25 Preseason poll and most of these games are available to stream live or watch live on television.

After cruising through the preseason schedule, top-ranked Duke will open its regular season campaign against Elon inside Cameron Indoor Stadium in Durham.

Game time for this one is set for 7:00 PM ET and the ACC Network will provide the live action.

The Blue Devils will be led by senior guard Grayson Allen, but the supporting cast is again outstanding.

Among those ready to take on the task of helping Duke win the championship this year are freshmen Marvin Bagley III, Gary Trent Jr., Trevon Duval, as well as sophomore Marques Bolden.

No. 2 Michigan State, a team several pundits are backing to upstage the Blue Devils and cut down the nets in San Antonio this season, gets its campaign underway at Breslin Center against North Florida.

The matchup at East Lansing is set for 8:00 PM ET and will be live on the Big Ten Network.

The Tom Izzo coached Spartans are led by surprised returner Miles Bridges, who headlined the AP preseason All-America team after collecting the most votes on the squad.

Defending national champion North Carolina, led by Joel Berry II, will start the defense of its title at home against Northern Iowa, live on ESPNU at 7:00 PM ET.

WatchESPN will also provide live streaming coverage of this game.

The Tar Heels are ranked No. 9 in the AP Top 25 Preseason poll.

Meanwhile, at the Ramstein Air Force Base in Ramstein, Germany, No. 11 West Virginia and No. 25 Texas A&M will get their season underway on foreign soil.

Live coverage of this game is at 6:00 PM ET and ESPN and WatchESPN will televised and stream the action.

Elsewhere, No. 3 Arizona will host Northern Arizona, No. 4 Kansas opens against Tennessee State at Allen Fieldhouse, No. 5 Kentucky takes on Utah Valley at Rupp Arena, while No. 7 Wichita State gets its season underway at home against UMKC.

NCAA College Basketball Top 10 Week 1 Schedule, TV Channels

MIAMI, FL, Sporting Alert – The NCAA college basketball 2017-18 season tips-off this week and we take a look at the Top 10 teams’ openers and their respective opponents.

No. 1 Duke, which collected 33 of the first-place votes from the media panel recently, will play two games in Week 1.

The Blue Devils get their season underway on Friday vs. Elon at Cameron Indoor Stadium before returning the following day to host Utah Valley at the same venue.

Meanwhile, defending national champion North Carolina starts the defense of its title at home to Northern Iowa on Friday night.

The Tar Heels are ranked No. 9 in the recently released AP Top 25 Preseason poll.

No. 2 Michigan State, which received 13 top votes in the preseason poll, will also open its season on Friday against North Florida at Breslin Center in East Lansing.

There are two games on the schedule as well for the third-ranked Arizona, which hosts Northern Arizona on Nov 10 and UMBC two days later.

The Wildcats picked up 18 first-place votes in the AP Top 25 preseason rankings and have a squad that could challenge this season.

Fourth-ranked Kansas, which received the final first-place vote in the preseason poll, will play one game in Week 1, with the Jayhawks hosting Tennessee State on Friday.

No. 5 Kentucky plays Utah Valley in its season opener on Friday inside Rupp Arena and stays at the venue to welcome Vermont on Sunday.

Elsewhere on Friday night, sixth-ranked Villanova gets its campaign underway at home against Columbia, while No. 7 Wichita State entertains UMKC and No. 10 USC tips-off against CS Fullerton.

The only AP Top 25 team inactive in Week 1 is No. 8 Florida.

The Gators tip-off their campaign next Monday, Nov. 13 at home against Gardner-Webb.

Duke, Miami, Virginia Tech Win At ACC Tournament 2nd Round

NEW YORK — Luke Kennard scored 17 of his 20 points in the second half as three players combined to score 39 points after the break and No. 14 Duke beat Clemson 79-72 in the second round of the ACC Tournament on Wednesday.

After shooting 1-for-9 for three points in the first half, Kennard went 8-of-11 in the second half, as Duke advances to play fourth-seeded and No. 10 Louisville in the quarterfinal of the ACC Tournament on Thursday at Barclays Center.

“I think that’s a heck of a performance when a player it isn’t going and then it goes that shows you’re a different player. You’re a special player when you’re able to do that,” Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski said.

Jayson Tatum added 20 points, nine rebounds and four assists and Frank Jackson shot 7-for-10 and made both of his 3-pointers for 20 points for the Blue Devils (24-8).

“The biggest thing I can take away from this is how much confidence my coaches, my teammates, they have in me,” Kennard said.

“They continue to tell me to be aggressive.”

Amile Jefferson finished with a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds, while Grayson Allen, still nursing a sore ankle and coming off the bench, missed all four of his shots and finished with zero points for Duke.

Jaron Blossomgame led Clemson in the defeat with 19 points and eight rebounds.

Shelton Mitchell scored 17 points, Marcquise Reed ended with 13, while Sidy Djitte finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds for the Tigers (17-15), who shot just 39.3 percent.

Both teams went into the halftime break locked at 33 apiece, but Duke outscored Clemson 46-39 in the second half to setup the win.

The Blue Devils twice led by 13 points in the second half before the Tigers trim the deficit to one point at 69-68 with 2:51 remaining.

However, Kennard, Tatum and Jackson all made buckets from either the floor or from the free throw line to win the game for Duke.

Regardless of the result in the next game, the Blue Devils are heading to the NCAA tournament.

Clemson will not and is hoping to earn an NIT invite.

“We won six (ACC) games. We probably needed to win eight or 10,” Clemson coach Brad Brownell said about getting into the NCAA tournament.

“That’s obviously why today’s game was so important for our team.

“If we could have got today’s game, then I think we have a better chance, and then maybe one more.”

Early in the day, ninth-seeded Miami held off No. 8 seed Syracuse 62-57 in the second round of the ACC Tournament.

Kamari Murphy had 16 points and 10 rebounds to lead the way for the Hurricanes (21-10), who advanced to play top-seeded and sixth-ranked North Carolina in the first quarterfinal Thursday.

Wednesday’s defeat means the Orange have been left to sweat out another Selection Sunday to know if they get a bid to the NCAA tournament.

In another ACC Tournament game, Zach LeDay had 31 points and 15 rebounds to lead seventh-seed Virginia Tech to a 99-90 victory over No. 10 seed Wake Forest.

ESPN3 Schedule: College Basketball on Feb. 21

WICHITA, Kansas — College basketball ESPN3 schedule on Tuesday night with live streaming coverage also available on WatchESPN and the ESPN Network App.

Tip-off time for the opening games are set for 7:00 p.m. ET, with the schedule showing seven matchups on the list for that time.

Another three games are scheduled to begin at 8:00 p.m. with the final game on the ESPN3 schedule slated for 9:00 p.m.

Highlighting the list of outings on the streaming platform Tuesday night is the clash between the streaking No. 25 Wichita State and Evansville at Charles Koch Arena in Kansas.

The Shockers (25-4, 15-1 Missouri Valley Conference) have won 10 straight games and are coming off a 77-43 win over Northern Iowa on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Evansville suffered an 84-72 defeat over Bradley on Saturday, which snapped its four-game winning streak.

In the conference standings, Wichita State is tied at the top of the MVC table with Illinois State each sporting a 15-1 record.

The Purple Aces (14-15) are 10 games behind the Shockers in league action and are third from bottom in the standings with a 5-11 record.

Markis McDuffie is averaging 11.8 points per game and leads three Wichita State players scoring in double-digits this season.

Landry Shamet is scoring 10.9 points and Darral Willis Jr. is putting out 10.3 for the Shockers this season.

The home side could be tested by the league’s leading scorer, Jaylon Brown, who is averaging 20.8 points and shooting 47.1 percent from the floor.

Ryan Taylor, who is scoring 14.9 points per game is ranked sixth in conference play this season entering this battle.

No. 11 Wisconsin Rallies To Beat No. 23 Maryland 71-60

MADISON, Wis. — Nigel Hayes scored 14 of his 21 points in the second half and also grabbed 10 rebounds and No. 11 Wisconsin rallied to beat No. 23 Maryland 71-60 in a Big 10 battle at Kohl Center on Sunday.

Hayes shot 6-of-15 overall, but was 4-of-8 in the second half and collected eight of his total rebounds after halftime.

Ethan Happ added 20 points on 7-of-11 shooting and pulled down seven rebounds for the Badgers (22-5, 11-3), who trailed 33-27 at halftime before outscoring Maryland 44-27 in the second half.

“Those guys just dominated,” said Maryland coach Mark Turgeon about Hayes and Happ. “We couldn’t guard them heads-up. We couldn’t guard them in a double-team.”

He added: “They were good. They were terrific. We couldn’t guard them. They were great.”

Melo Trimble led the Terrapins with 27 points, which included four 3-pointers before he was pulled from the contest with his team trailing by 12 with 4:32 left.

“He was tired,” Turgeon said about pulling Trimble. “He was carrying us. He missed two free throws, he never misses.

“He was tired. If we would have made a little run, I would have put him back in, but we got four games in 10 days. Wisconsin was dominating the game.”

The junior guard also grabbed five rebounds and dished out three assists in the defeat.

Michal Cekovsky finished with 10 points and two blocks for Maryland (22-5, 10-4), which had its two-game win streak snapped.

As a team, Wisconsin, which snapped a two-game losing streak, shot 41.4 percent (24-of-58) from the floor, but went just 2-for-12 from 3-point range.

Maryland was 19-of-45 from the floor for 42.2 percent in the defeat.

Both teams combined for 48 fouls.

“In regards to the game, extremely physical,” Wisconsin coach Greg Gard said.

“We may have run the training room out of ice after the game. But our guys, specifically in the second half, stepped up and answered the bell, so to speak.

“We were much better in the paint, obviously got to the free throw line a bunch, tried to convert more of those opportunities into more points, and also only one turnover in the second half, so that was more like how this team is.

College Basketball Top 25 Schedule on Feb. 13

LAWRENCE, Kan. — NCAA college basketball Top 25 fixtures on Monday night see No. 3 Kansas looking to avenge its defeat to West Virginia last month when it entertains the ninth-ranked Mountaineers in a rematch at Allen Fieldhouse.

When these two teams met last time on Jan. 24 at WVU Coliseum, West Virginia handed Kansas its first defeat in conference play with an 85-69 victory.

Come Monday night, the Jayhawks (22-3, 10-2 Big 12) will aim to return the favour, as they also seek to bounce back from a rare home defeat after losing to Iowa State the last time they played at home.

Last week Kansas beat Kansas State and Texas Tech for its fourth win in five games, but Bill Self’s men are expected to face stiff competition from a West Virginia (20-5, 8-4 Big 12) side that has won two straight and five in the last six overall.

Jevon Carter (11.8 ppg) leads three Mountaineers players scoring in double-digits this season, with Esa Ahmad (11.6 ppg) and Nathan Adrian (10.8 ppg) the two others in that bracket.

Kansas is led by senior guard Frank Mason III, who is scoring 20.1 points per game this term.

Freshman Josh Jackson is averaging 16.6 points and 7.0 rebounds, while Devonte’ Graham (13.0 ppg) and Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk (10.7 ppg) are also scoring in double figures.

Other AP Top 25 ranked teams in action on Monday night are No. 2 and defending national champion Villanova, which will take on DePaul on the road, No. 4 Baylor, which is at Texas Tech and No. 8 Louisville, which travels to take on Syracuse.

Another highlighted NCAA basketball showdown set for Thursday night is the Pac-12 matchup between No. 5 Oregon and No. 10 UCLA. DUKE v NORTH CAROLINA: 8:00 pm ET

When this battle tips off on Thursday, it will be the 243rd edition of what has been described as “college basketball’s best rivalry.”

The Blue Devils (18-5, 6-4 ACC) enter this game on a three-game winning streak and have won four of the last five outings overall.

The Tar Heels (21-4, 9-2 ACC), meanwhile, have won two straight and beat No. 20 Notre Dame 83-76 on Sunday in their rescheduled game that had to be relocated from North Carolina’s campus because of a water shortage on Saturday.

Duke has won four of the last five meetings against North Carolina in this series and three of the last four games at home.

TAR HEELS IN GOOD FORM

UNC, which has won nine out of the last 10 games overall and sits atop the Atlantic Coast Conference Standings, is averaging 87.8 points per game and shooting 37.5-percent from 3-point range.

Justin Jackson, who sits sixth in scoring in the ACC, leads North Carolina with 18.6 points per game, while Joel Berry II is scoring 14.9, Isaiah Hicks is putting out 12.8 and Kennedy Meeks averaging 12.6 points and 9.4 rebounds per contest.

DUKE START FAVOURITE AT HOME

The Blue Devils start as 2-point favourite to beat the Tar Heels, according to the bookies, with the game’s over/under sitting at 160.5.

Sophomore Luke Kennard leads five Duke players averaging in double-digit scoring this season with 19.8 points per game to go with 5.6 rebounds.

Grayson Allen is scoring 15.8 points, Jayson Tatum is averaging 15.8 points and 6.9 rebounds, Amile Jefferson is collecting 12.0 points and 9.2 rebounds, while Frank Jackson is scoring 10.2 points per battle this season.

MIAMI, FL — NCAA basketball Top 25 schedule on Saturday, February 4 will feature several exciting matchups, while an emergency has forced the postponement of one of the ranked v ranked battles.

After holding No. 2 Baylor at home in midweek, No. 3 Kansas (20-2, 8-1 Big 12) will welcome Iowa State (13-8, 5-4 Big 12) at Allen Fieldhouse in Lawrence, seeking to stay undefeated at home this season.

The Jayhawks, who have won 54 straight home games overall, which is the longest active streak in Division I, will start with an 84 percent chance to win the game, according to ESPN’s Basketball Power Index.

Frank Mason III leads Kansas in scoring and assists per game this season at 19.9 points and 5.2 helpers.

Freshman Josh Jackson, who has scored 20 or more points in the last three consecutive games, is averaging 16.0 points and 6.9 rebounds this term.

Iowa State is led by senior guard Monte Morris, who is averaging 16.0 points, 5.6 assists and 4.9 rebounds per game.

The Cyclones have lost two in a row for the third successive time this season and are coming off an 85-72 defeat against No. 7 West Virginia on Tuesday night.

No. 2 Baylor, meanwhile, will aim to rebound from the 73-68 defeat suffered at the hand of Kansas on Wednesday night when it host Kansas State at Ferrell Center in Waco.

The Bears (20-2, 7-2 Big 12) were losing for only the second time this season and ESPN’s Basketball Power Index is backing the home side to bounce back immediately.

Heading into Saturday’s game, Baylor has an 85 percent chance to beat the Wildcats (15-7, 4-5 Big 12), who have lost three straight.

Meanwhile, in the Atlantic Coast Conference, No. 21 Duke (17-5, 5-4 ACC) has announced that head coach Mike Krzyzewski is to return from back surgery for the clash against Pittsburgh at Cameron Indoor Stadium.

Krzyzewski missed the Blue Devils’ last seven games and they went 4-3 in his absence, but the veteran coach will be back on the sidelines as he seeks to get his team rolling in the second half of the campaign.

Duke, which has won two straight, starts with a 95 percent chance to beat the Panthers (12-10, 1-8 ACC), who have lost seven straight.

WINSTON-SALEM, North Carolina — No. 17 Duke and acting head coach Jeff Capel travel to Winston-Salem on Saturday to take on Wake Forest, hoping to shake off a poor run of form in recent outings.

Saturday’s game is scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m. ET and will be stream live on the ACC Network.

DUKE MID-SEASON SKID

The Blue Devils (15-5, 3-4 ACC) have been struggling since the start of conference play and their shocking second half meltdown in the 84-82 defeat to NC State at home on Monday night is another strong indication of how far the preseason No. 1 team has fallen this season.

Three defeats in the past four outings haven’t rested well with head coach Mike Krzyzewski, who is understood to be very unhappy with his team’s performances.

Krzyzewski is currently recovering from lower back surgery, but the experienced COACH made known his frustrations during a meeting with this players.

According to ESPN, Coach K met with the team and coaches at his house this week and banned players from the locker room and also restricted them from wearing Blue Devils apparel “until they start living up to the standards of the Duke program.”

LOOKING FOR A ROAD REACTION

Despite the criticisms from a few college basketball pundits, Krzyzewski and his coach staff are sticking to the tactic and are now hoping for a positive reaction from his team at Wake Forest.

Duke head into the Lawrence Joel Coliseum hoping to secure its first road win in Atlantic Coast Conference play this season and given a number of talents in the squad, it’s no wonder the visitors are starting as the favourites again.

According to ESPN’s Basketball Power Index, the Blue Devils will start with a 73 percent chance of winning against Wake Forest on Saturday.

The Demon Deacons (12-8, 3-5 ACC) has won two of their past three games, but are coming off an 81-76 defeat against Syracuse on Tuesday night.

John Collins has been the main contributor this term for Wake Forest, scoring 17.0 points per game and grabbing seven rebounds as well.

Bryant Crawford at 14.6 points per game, Keyshawn Woods at 12.9 and Konstantinos Mitoglou with 10.2 points and 6.4 rebounds, are the other top contributors this season for the Demon Deacons.

BLUE DEVILS NEED A POINT GUARD?

Meanwhile, Luke Kennard at 19.8 points per game, leads Duke in scoring and is ranked fourth in ACC this season.

Freshman Jayson Tatum is scoring 16.5, Grayson Allen is averaging 15.1, while senior Amile Jefferson is averaging 12.7 points and 9.9 rebounds for the Blue Devils, who are getting 10.8 points per game from freshman guard Frank Jackson.

Pundits believe that although Allen and Jackson are very good players, neither one of them are true point guards and the lack of a real playmaker in the team his visibly hurting Duke at the moment.

No. 18 WEST VIRGINIA 85, No. 2 KANSAS 69

Esa Ahmad scored a career-high 27 points on 10-of-17 shooting to guide No. 18 West Virginia to an impressive 85-69 victory over No. 2 Kansas on Tuesday night.

The Mountaineers (16-4, 5-3 Big 12) have now beaten Kansas four straight time in Morgantown, while the Jayhawks (18-2, 7-1) had their 18-game winning streak snapped.

According to ESPN Stats and Info, it’s the first time the Kansas was losing four in a row on the road to a Big 12 opponent.

Nathan Adrian had 11 points, while Tarik Phillip and Daxter Miles Jr. scored 10 apiece for West Virginia, which has now defeated then-No. 1 Baylor, No. 2 Kansas and then-No. 6 Virginia.

Josh Jackson matched a season-best with 22 points on 7-of-12 shooting before fouling out for Kansas, which gave up 34 points at the rim.

Devonte’ Graham added 17 points and Frank Mason III ended with 15 for the Jayhawks, who next play at No. 4 Kentucky in the SEC/Big 12 Challenge on Saturday, before hosting No. 5 Baylor on Feb. 1.

After shooting 35 percent in the first half, Marquette made 16-of-23 shots after the break and connected on 7-of-11 attempts from long-range.

Meanwhile, No. 13 Louisville crushed Pittsburgh 106-51 in a very one-sided Atlantic Coast Conference contest in front of a crowd of 15,295 at Petersen Events Center in Pennsylvania.

According to the Elias Sports Bureau, the 55-point win by the Cardinals (17-4, 5-3 ACC) over the Panthers (12-8, 1-6 ACC) on Tuesday night is tied for the third-largest in a conference game in ACC history, and the biggest margin ever in a road game.

Donovan Mitchell scored a career-high 29 points with six 3-pointers, while Ryan McMahon scored 15 points with five 3s and Anas Mahmoud made all seven of his shots to add 14 for Louisville, which led 51-18 at halftime.

Deng Adel with 10 points and six rebounds and Tony Hicks with 10 points, also scored in double-digits for the Cardinals, who collected a game-high 11 rebounds from Jaylen Johnson.

Michael Young, who is second in the ACC in scoring with 21.1 points per game, scored just 12 to lead Pittsburgh, which shot just 25.5 percent and was just 3-for-22 from 3-pointers.

Conference leading scorer Jamel Artis (22.0) was 3-of-11 from the floor for nine points.

London Perrantes scored 22 points and No. 12 Virginia eased to a 71-54 victory over No. 14 Notre Dame, while Caleb Swanigan tallied 25 points and 17 rebounds to lead No. 20 Purdue to an 84-73 win over Michigan State.

Jevon Carter leads the team at 12.0 points per game and he is followed by Esa Ahmad at 11.3, Nathan Adrian at 10.6 and Daxter Miles with 10 points.

West Virginia is fourth in the Big 12 standings, while Kansas, which is undefeated in conference play this season after seven outings, sits No. 1.

Kansas guard Frank Mason III leads the Big 12 in scoring with 20.1 points per game and is second in assists at 5.4 per contest.

Freshman Josh Jackson is scoring 15.1 points per game, which is ranked eighth in league play.

Meanwhile, West Virginia’s 88.3 points per game are the best in the Big 12 in scoring offense. KU is putting up 85.4 per game for third.

Meanwhile, No. 12 Virginia and No. 14 Notre Dame will meet in an Atlantic Coast Conference encounter in Indiana.
