Jeremy Lin Signs For G League Side Santa Cruz Warriors

By:Sports Desk Published on: January 10, 2021 8:34 am Leave a Comment

Veteran guard Jeremy Lin has signed for Golden State Warriors’ G League affiliate, Santa Cruz Warriors, ahead of the 2020-21 season, the team announced on Saturday.

Lin spent the 2019-20 season with the Chinese Basketball Association’s Beijing Ducks and guided them to the semi-finals before they lost to eventual champions Guangdong Southern Tigers. He left the team in September.

The 32-year-old began his NBA career with the Warriors in 2010 before joining the New York Knicks, where his strong performance in the 2011-12 season gave rise to the term “Linsanity”.

Lin also had spells with the Houston Rockets, Los Angeles Lakers, Charlotte Hornets, Brooklyn Nets and Atlanta Hawks and in 2019 became the first Asian-American to win an NBA Championship, doing so with the Toronto Raptors.

The G League will begin its season in February in the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Disney World near Orlando.

Lin told Chinese fans that he doesn’t intend to stay in the G League forever. He hopes to be picked up by a NBA team.

“My dream is not to stay in the G League,” Lin said in a live Q&A with his Chinese fans on social media.

“If I play well, NBA teams will want to sign me and I can join whichever NBA team who wants me, although I am playing in the Warriors’ G League team.”

“I think an update on social media is not enough,” Lin added, “so I choose to live-stream on Douyin, to see if I can talk with you and answer your questions.”

Lin also told his fans that he’d be back some day.

“Regardless of success or not, I don’t know what I will do next year. If no NBA team wants me, if you asked me today, I really want to go back to the CBA,” he revealed.

“I always want to go back to CBA some day, that’s for sure. I get on well with Shougang boss, players and coach.

“If I am successful in NBA, then even if I have an NBA offer next year, I can’t agree to go to the NBA immediately, because I really enjoyed my time with the Ducks.”

CHARLOTTE, N.C., Sporting Alert – Jeremy Lin scored 24 points and led five of his teammates in double-digits, and the Charlotte Hornets rallied in the second half to beat the Cleveland Cavaliers 106-97 on Wednesday night. Box score

Lin went 7-of-13 on shooting from the floor and added eight assists and five rebounds for the Hornets, who outscored the Cavaliers 33-17 in the third quarter to take an 82-75 lead before seizing the advantage and then extended the lead to double figures.

Marvin Williams finished with 16 points and four rebounds, Frank Kaminsky III added 15 points and six boards off the bench for Charlotte (24-25), which improved to 17-8 at the Time Warner Cable Arena this season.

Michael Kidd-Gilchrist collected 11 points and 13 rebounds and Nicholas Batum scored 10 points for the Hornets, who played without starting point guard Kemba Walker due to a sore left knee.

Walker is averaging 20.2 points, 5 assists and 4.3 rebounds this season. He was missing his first game of the term.

Kyrie Irving paced the Cavaliers with 26 points and five assists, while LeBron James added 23 points, six rebounds, six assists and two blocks for Cleveland, which had won five straight entering Wednesday night’s contest.

Also scoring in double figures for the Cavs in the defeat were J.R. Smith, who scored 14 points and had four steals, as well as Kevin Love, who finished with 12 points, 12 rebounds, two blocks and two steals in the defeat.

The win on Wednesday night saw Charlotte, which outrebounded the Cavs 49-28 — snapping a four-game losing streak against the Cavaliers, while winning two in a row.

Up next for the Cleveland Cavaliers, who lead the Eastern Conference standings, is a trip to the Boston Celtics on Friday night, while the Lin and the Charlotte Hornets stay at home to entertain the Miami Heat on Friday night as well.

Charles Barkley is now free to eat, after the LA Lakers (1-5) outscored the Charlotte Hornets in the second half on their way to a 107-92 victory – the first win of the season for Byron Scott’s team.

Barkley said on TNT last week that he would be fasting until Scott’s side won a game this season and Lakers forward Ed Davis, who scored 10 points and five rebounds in the win, used social media to fire back at the TNT commentator.

“Charles your fat a– can eat now,” Davis wrote on Twitter.

Before that though, Bryant scored 21 points and six rebounds and Lin added 21 points and seven assists for the Lakers, which snapped a five game losing streak.

“I know the city probably feels good about it,” said Scott after the win. “Mentally, it gives us the vision that we can win.”

Carlos Boozer scored 16 points and five rebounds and Jordan Hill collected 12 points, seven assists and six boards in the win for Los Angeles.

Also on Sunday, the Phoenix Suns ended Golden State’s five game undefeated winning run on the season with a 107-95 victory at US Airways Center.

Isaiah Thomas scored 22 points and seven boards and Goran Dragic and Gerald Green each added 19 points apiece in the win for Phoenix.

“We knew if we were just solid at the defensive end, they would be turning the ball over because that’s what they’ve been doing this whole season,” Thomas said.

“Guys were open and they knocked down shots. It started at the defensive end, though.”

Stephen Curry finished with 28 points, 10 assists and five steals, but also had 10 turnovers in the defeat for Golden State (5-1), who were dropping their first game of the term.

“We just made a lot of stupid plays that gave them life as opposed to putting the nail in the coffin when we had the opportunity to do that,” Curry said after the defeat.

Draymond Green scored 22 points and nine boards in the defeat.

In other results, the Toronto Raptors (6-1) handed the Philadelphia 76ers (0-7) a seventh successive defeat to start the season with a 120-88 result, while Oklahoma City Thunder (2-5) held off the Sacramento Kings (5-2), 101-93.
