MANCHESTER (Sporting Alert) – Wayne Rooney starts on the bench for Manchester United for today’s Barclays Premier League clash with Tottenham at Old Trafford.
The England international returned to action in midweek against Newcastle in the Capital One Cup and had a good outing, following a leg injury that kept him out of action for a month.
However, Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has decided to leave him on the bench tonight with Robin Van Persie and Shinji Kagawa both returning to the starting team.
Anders Lindegaard also returns in goal for the Red Devils with David De Gea back on the bench, with the likes of Anderson and Tom Cleverley, who both scored against Newcastle.
Nani, Rio Ferdinand, Jonny Evans, Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs and Michael Carrick are all in the starting team for Manchester United.
Javier Hernandez and Danny Welbeck are both on the bench as well.
Clint Dempsey, Gareth Bale and Jermain Defoe are all starters for Tottenham. Steven Caulker also starts in place of midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson.
