Favourites Calabar High are yet to pick up a point at the Champs 2014 after two days of action at the National Stadium in Kingston, Jamaica. The following are the results and points standings after day two.
Day three of the Jamaica High School Boys and Girls Championships is expected to provide more excitement on Thursday with the action starting at 8:30 am. Here is the Order of Events and live streaming on the day.
Among the leading athletes in action on the opening day of the championships was quarter-miler Javon Francis, who booked his place into the semi-finals of the Boys Class 1 dash of the 400m.
Francis, a member of the Jamaican 4x400m relay team that won a silver medal at the IAAF 2013 World Athletics Championships in Moscow, Russia.
The Calabar High School 19-year-old sprinter, who holds a personal best of 45.24 seconds over the 400m, won his heat of the event at Champs in a comfortable time of 48.04secs – lots more in the tank for the next rounds.
Francis has a seasonal best time of 45.95 secs, achieved in February.
Fastest on the day, however, were Nathon Allen of St. Jago, who posted 47.57Q and Manchester High’s Lennox Williams, who ran 47.65 to win his heat as well.
