Mason Rudolph Guides Oklahoma State Over South Alabama, 44-7

MOBILE, Ala., Sporting Alert — Mason Rudolph continued his impressive start to the college football 2017 season after helping No. 11 Oklahoma State trounced South Alabama 44-7 and broke the Cowboys’ career passing mark on Friday night. Rudolph threw for 335 yards and three touchdowns and ran for a score in the win for Oklahoma State (2-0) which made it two from two starts this season.

The senior quarterback, who has not played in the fourth quarter of either of the opening two games this campaign, said it “was cool” to get the school record but he remains focused on the bigger goals this season.

“That’s not even one of the goals on my goal sheet,” said Rudolph, who went 25 of 38 on passes with no interceptions.

“Getting the Big 12 title is the ultimate goal, and it’s going to take a lot more of these performances to get there.”

Marcell Ateman took two catches for touchdowns, James Washington had two catches for 98 yards, including a 66 yarder for a TD for OSU, which tallied 505 totals, which included 342 yards passing in the win.

South Alabama lost starting quarterback Cole Garvin after just one series when he sprained his right ankle.

Garvin was replaced by Dallas Davis, who completed 13 of 23 passes for 126 yards and connected with Maaseiah Francis for a late 17-yard touchdown in the defeat.

Overall, the Jaguars (0-2), who dropped their second successive game of the season, was no match for the Cowboys, who held the home side to just 175 total yards.

PUNISHED

Meanwhile, Oklahoma State linebacker Calvin Bundage was ejected from the game for targeting on the first play of the third quarter.

He will be unavailable for the first half at Pittsburgh.

In other news, Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy said linebacker Kevin Henry will likely miss the rest of the season after suffering an injury before Friday night’s game.

Henry, who featured in 13 games last year, hurt his knee during a practice session on Thursday, with Gundy confirming that it was a non-contact injury.
