MUNICH (Sporting Alert) — As expected, Wayne Rooney leads the attack for Manchester United in tonight’s Champions League quarter-final second leg tie at Bayern Munich.

The England forward has been bothered by a toe problem, but has decided to take a pain-killing injection so he can lineup for the English Premier League champions.

In other team news, manager David Moyes has decided against starting Rio Ferdinand and start with Chris Smalling as the partner in the heart of the defense with his captain Nemanja Vidic.

Antonio Valencia and Danny Welbeck will start on the wings, while Shinji Kagawa also start.

For Bayern Munich, striker Mario Mandzukic, who setup the equalizer at Old Trafford last week in the first leg 1-1 draw, comes into the starting lineup at the Allianz Arena.

In other Bayern team news, defender Dante and midfielder Mario Gotze also come into Pep Guardiola’s side, with captain Philipp Lahm starting at right-back.

Bastian Schweinsteiger, who scored the equalizer in the first leg and Javi Martínez are out suspended.
