MANCHESTER (Sporting Alert) — Forward Wayne Rooney returns to the Manchester United starting line-up for tonight’s Capital One League Cup clash with Newcastle United at Old Trafford.
Rooney has been out of action for a month with an injury to his leg, but has recovered and given the chance to lead a three man attack which also includes Danny Welbeck and Javier Chicharito Hernandez.
As expected, David De Gea also returns to the United starting XI, which is being skippered by Darren Fletcher.
Anderson, Tom Anderson and Alexander Buttner are all included as well. Marnick Vermiji, Scott Wootton and Michael Keane also play in defence for Manchester United.
There were no Rio Ferdinand, Jonny Evans, Robin van Persie, Paul Scholes or Rafael, while Nick Powell is on the bench.
Newcastle’s Gabriel Obertan faces his former side at Old Trafford, with Shola Ameobi, captain Fabricio Coloccini and Chiekh Tiote also in the starting team.
