LUBBOCK, Texas (Texas Tech) – Texas Tech junior Kennedy Kithuka remained unbeaten in 2012 with a first place finish Saturday morning at the 2012 Kansas Rim Rock Classic.
Kithuka crossed the line with a personal-best and course record time of 22:26.70 in the 8,000-meter race to secure his third-straight victory in 2012. The Thika, Kenya native finished 45 seconds ahead of Zachery Mayhew of Indiana in second.
“Kennedy had a great run against some more difficult competition,” head coach Jon Murray said. “He had a terrific time on a solid course.”
The Red Raiders finished fourth overall in the team standings with an even 100 points while the Lady Raiders finished 10th overall with 264 points.
Kithuka, who was named Big 12 Runner of the Week on Sept. 18, was followed by teammate Ezekiel Kissorio who finished fourth overall with a time of 23:59.10.
The Lady Raiders were paced for the third-straight race by junior Chelsea Scott who finished 55th overall with a time of 22:40.70. She was directly followed by teammate Madeline Livergood who finished 56th with a time of 22:43.20.
Texas Tech will return to action on Oct. 13 when the squad competes at the Chile Pepper Festival in Fayetteville, Ark.
