Top Results – Norway’s Grovdal and Ingebrigtsen reign supreme at 2022 European Cross Country Championships

Jakob Ingebrigtsen wins the 2022 SPAR European Cross Country Championships

TURIN, Italy (11-December) —— The 2022 European Cross Country Championships were held on Sunday, December 11th in La Mandria Park in Piemonte, which is just outside the Italian city of Turin. The event featured some of the top distance runners in Europe, including the reigning champions Jakob Ingebrigtsen of Norway and his compatriot Karoline Bjerkli Grovdal who successfully defended their respective senior race crowns.

The men’s senior race was won by Ingebrigtsen, who was in total control all the way in completing the 10K course in a time of 29 minutes and 33 seconds. Ingebrigtsen ran with a small group of runners before pulling away in the latter stages of the race and crossed the finish line to defend his crown with a comfortable margin of victory.

He was easily ahead of Emile Cairess of Great Britain who ran 29:42 for second place, while Isaac Kimeli of Belgium finished third at 29:45 and Italy’s Yemaneberhan Crippa (29:47) and Germany’s Filimon Abraham (29:49) rounded out the top five finishers.

In the women’s senior race, meanwhile, defending champion Karoline Bjerkli Grovdal took home the title with a time of 26 minutes and 25 seconds. Grovdal trailed Germany’s European 5000m champion Konstanze Klosterhalfen in the latter part of the race, but went around her in the closing meters to retain the gold medal she won 12 months ago in Dublin.

Elsewhere, Nadia Battocletti of Italy won the U23 title for the women, while Stanford’s 2022 NCAA champion Charles Hicks of Great Britain successfully retained his men’s U23 title comfortably as well.
