LONDON, Sporting Alert – English Premier League – EPL standings – after the list of fixtures that took place over the weekend, Jan. 2 and 3.

Arsenal continue to pace the pack, while Newcastle United, Sunderland and Aston Villa are all fighting the relegation battle at the end of the first half of the season.

At the top, the Gunners have 42 points in the points standings after starting the New Year with a 1-0 victory over Newcastle on Saturday.

Arsenal sit two points ahead of second place Leicester City which played to a goalless draw with AFC Bournemouth — losing valuable grounds on the leaders.

Manchester City sit third in the EPL standings with 39 points, following a 2-1 battling win over Watford on Saturday as well, while Tottenham continue to hold down fourth place, despite being held 1-1 at Everton on Sunday.

Manchester United are fifth on 33 points, three behind Tottenham and one ahead of West Ham United who moved into sixth place with a 2-0 victory over Liverpool.

The EPL standings top 10 is completed by Crystal Palace (31), Liverpool (30), Watford (29), Stoke City (29).

Things are still closely congested in the middle of the table, with only four points separating 11th through 15th.

Chelsea seem to be on the move now after hammering Crystal Palace 3-0 on the road on Sunday to move to 23 points and in 14th place.

Everton (11th, 27pts), West Bromwich Albion (26pts), Southampton (24pts) and Norwich City (15th, 23pts) rounded out the top 15.

Meanwhile, Swansea City, after 20 games have 19 points and are just one slot and two points away from falling into the relegation zone.
