(Sporting Alert) — Uruguay took a massive step towards qualifying for next year’s FIFA World Cup finals after thrashing Jordan 5-0 in their play-offs qualifier at King Abdullah Stadium on Wednesday.
Maxi Pereira and Christian Stuani scored in the first half and then Nicolas Lodeiro, Cristian Rodriguez and Edinson Cavani added goals in the second half to setup the comfortable victory for South American powerhouses.
The 2010 fourth-place finishers from South Africa will now take a handy lead into next week’s second leg contest and will certainly start as the overwhelming favourites to book their place to Brazil.
