KANSAS CITY (Sporting Alert) — A double from Clint Dempsey piloted the United States to a 3-1 win over Guatemala in a CONCACAF World Cup 2014 qualifier on Tuesday night.
Jamaica also progressed to the final round in CONCACAF, following their 4-1 victory over Antiqua and Barbuda in Kingston.
In Kansas City, USA found themselves, down a goal early when Carlos Ruiz broke through the defence to beat Tim Howard in the fifth minute.
However, Carlos Bocanegra scored the equaliser from a corner kick in the 10th minute before Dempsey scored in the 18th and 36th minutes.
Meanwhile, Jamaica, needing a big win and a favour from either USA or Guatemala, got both requests after they polished off Antiqua and Barbuda to take second in the semi-final group.
A brace from MLS star Dane Richards and a goal each by Demar Phillips and Nyron Nosworthy guided the Reggae Boyz to the much needed victory.
USA topped the group standings with 13 points, while Jamaica finished second after pipping Guatemala on goal difference.
