Video Benteke Scores Overhead Goal; Martial Scores On Debut

OLD TRAFFORD – Christian Benteke scored a stunning overhead kick goal for Liverpool in their 3-1 defeat to Manchester United, who had new recruit Anthony Martial scoring on his debut at Old Trafford.

With the score at 2-0 in favour of Manchester United, Benteke rose high to blast home a breathtaking acrobatic attempt to cut the score to 2-1 in the 84th minute.

However, Martial, playing in his first game for the Premier League giants, settled the contest with a wonderful solo effort in the 86th minute.

The 19-year-old, who started on the right hand side after coming on as a substitute for Juan Mata in the second half, was sent on his way by fellow substitute Ashley Young and after twisting and turning past his markers, including Martin Skrtel, finished with a beautiful strike.

Everyone at Old Trafford stopped and took notice of a player that was bashed by several pundits and former players before the game because of his hefty transfer price tag.

“What a debut for Martial,” former Manchester United defender Gary Neville said on Sky Sports. “He gets a little bit of good fortune but forget about that, he’s just had the moment of his life.

“Signing for Manchester United, all the expectation, all the doubts before he even kicked the ball have been removed by that moment.”

Daley Blind, who scored off a brilliant set-piece move to get Manchester United on the scoresheet and Ander Herrera, who won and took a penalty kick, were the other goalscorers for the Red Devils.

With the victory on Saturday, Manchester United moved to second place behind Manchester City in the Premier League table standings.
