Freshman running back Jeremy Hill, who had 124 yards and two touchdowns, showed up big time for LSU on Saturday when his team needed something with two outstanding plays that showed his breakaway speed for home side.
”Jeremy Hill’s a pretty talented back and has really great speed for a big man,” a delighted LSU coach Les Miles said after the win.
”He certainly came along at the right time.”
South Carolina, which had been enjoying a fantastic run to the season thus far, were hoping to go 7-0 with a road win, but LSU were just too tough to handle in the final quarter.
”Tonight I realized why LSU was preseason No. 1. said South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier said. “They can run the ball and stop the run.
”That was the biggest difference in the game, probably.”
See that their team needed a massive push against the very confident South Carolina, the over 92, 000 fans in Tiger Stadium came alive to push hosts to its 22nd-straight win on home turf.
“That was Death Valley. That was the place where opponents’ dreams come to die,” Miles said. “It started early and it ended late.
“I recognize the great advantage that the team has in this stadium.”
