Zinedine Zidane: El Clasico

DORTMUND, Sporting Alert – Andre Schurrle blasted home a late equaliser to help Borussia Dortmund pick up a 2-2 draw with Real Madrid in a Champions League Group F battle at Signal Iduna Park.

Substitute Christian Pulisic made a spirited run down the right side and then sent in a cross to the far post to the penalty, where Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang attempted an acrobatic overhead kick failed to come off.

The ball, however, fell straight at the feet of Schurrle, and the German international made no mistake with a powerful left-footed finish high into the roof of the net in the 87th minute.

Earlier, Cristiano Ronaldo gave Real Madrid the lead in the 17th minute with a left-footed shot after Gareth Bale had backheeled a pass into his path of his strike partner.

Aubameyang scored an equaliser in the 43rd minute after Real Madrid goalkeeper Keylor Navas failed to handle a free-kick.

Raphael Varane poked home from close range in the 68th minute, after Ronaldo delivered a super cross from the left side and Karim Benzema hit the post from inside the box.

“Of course I am satisfied,” Dortmund coach Thomas Tuchel said. “It was extremely difficult to come back twice from behind against such a world class team.

“We played a good first half and had more chances. In the second half after five minutes we lost control of the game. We are glad to have shown good morale.”

“The players played a geat match, the result is a difficult one to accept because we deserved a bit more, but it is not a bad result,” Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane said.

“I think in the first half we suffered a bit because they pressed a lot and we knew it is a difficult place to come against a good team, but I am very proud of the game we played.

“It was complete in every sense but the shame is it is three games in a row now we have drawn.

“When you concede three minutes from the end it hurts, especially given the effort the players put in.”
