LIVERPOOL (Sporting Alert) — Jonjo Shelvey has been rewarded for his midweek impressive performance with a starting place for Liverpool in this afternoon’s Premier League clash with Manchester United at Anfield.
Shelvey netted twice for Liverpool against Young Boys in the Europa League on Thursday, and manager Brendan Rodger has decided to give him a start today in the big clash.
The manager also recalls the likes of captain Steven Gerrard, Luis Suarez, and Joe Allen, while Fabio Borini and Raheem Sterling are also in the three-man attack.
Meanwhile, there was no Nemanja Vidic in the Manchester United defence or team this afternoon, as Jonny Evans and Rio Ferdinand are paired up at centre-back.
Manager Sir Alex Ferguson also made a change in goal, with Anders Lindegaard coming in to replace David de Gea, who started and was brilliant in the Champions League on Wednesday.
Veteran Ryan Giggs has been recalled, while Robin van Persie and Shinji Kagawa lead the attacking players starting XI.
Nani is also named in the starting team.
Both sets of players and opposing managers have urged fans to behave themselves ahead of the emotional game, as Liverpool play their first home match since the Hillsborough findings were made public.
