UAB beats Miami (OH) in Hometown Lenders Bahamas Bowl 2022

NASSAU, Bahamas – UAB defeated Miami (Ohio) 24-20 in the 2022 HomeTown Lenders Bahamas Bowl. Linebacker Reynard Ellis tackled Jalen Walker at the 1-yard line on the game-saving final play of the game in Nassau’s Thomas A. Robinson National Stadium on Thursday.

Jermaine Brown Jr. scored the go-ahead touchdown for UAB on 4th-and-1 play with 1:33 left in the fourth quarter to give the Blazers the four-point cushion. Brown Jr. rushed for 116 yards on 24 carries with two touchdowns overall.

Trea Shropshire, who was named the game’s offensive MVP, matched the Bahamas Bowl record with 183 receiving yards and a touchdown. Dylan Hopkins went 16 of 24 for 204 yards and a touchdown with an interception in the win for UAB.

Michael Fairbanks II was the defensive MVP with seven tackles, 1.5 TFL, 0.5 sack and a blocked extra point. Reynard Ellis ended with 10 tackles with three solo sacks.

Meanwhile, Aveon Smith finished 15 of 27 on completed passes with two touchdowns for Miami (OH) and he also rushed for 50 more yards on the ground.

Mac Hippenhammer and Kenny Tracy each had a catch for a touchdown for Redhawks. Matthew Salopek ended with 15 total tackles at the defensive end with 10 solo tackles and 1.5 TFL.
