LONDON (Sporting Alert) — Former Bayern Munich player Lukas Podolski is amongst the starters for Arsenal in today’s Champions League clash at Emirates Stadium.
Podolski featured for Bayern Munich in 71 league games and scored 15 goals between 2006 and 2009. Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has decided to go with a 4-4-2 formation today with Podolski being partnered by Theo Walcott and Olivier Giroud left on the bench.
Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny will lead the backline, alongside Bacary Sagna and Thomas Vermaelen, while Jack Wilshere, Aaron Ramsey and Santi Cazorla start in midfield.
Meanwhile, Bayern Munich, who has been tipped to beat Arsenal over both legs, start a very strong team as well, but forward Mario Gomez is on the bench.
Javi Martinez, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Thomas Muller, Toni Kroos, Franck Ribery and Mario Mandzukic all start for a Bayern side confident of beating the EPL side on their own turf.
Former Chelsea attacker Arjen Robben is on the bench.
