Among those in action on Sunday are Roger Federer on the on the men’s side, while World No. 1 and top women’s seed Serena Williams also gets her campaign underway on Day 1 at Roland Garros.

Federer takes on Lukas Lacko of Slovakia, while Williams is playing Alize Lim of France.

Earlier on the day, third-seeded Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland started her campaign with an easy 6-3, 6-0 victory over Zhang Shuai and move into the second round.

The win looked comfortable, but Radwanska had to remain calm to get through some frustrating time on the overcast day.

“So many breaks in a row,” said Radwanska. “I don’t know if there is really any explanation why there was eight breaks in a row, but I guess it happens sometimes.”

She added: “Clay is not really my favorite surface, but I’m trying.

“Last year I did my first quarterfinal, so hopefully this year I can do even better.”

Meanwhile, playing as well on Sunday are No. 29 Venus Williams, who takes on Belinda Bencic, No. 14 Carla Suarez Navarro, who goes up against Yuliya Beygelzimer, while the 25th-seeded Kaia Kanepi goes against Monica Niculescu.
