ST MARY’S (Sporting Alert) — Robin van Persie showed that he hasn’t forgotten how to score goals after firing home a hat-trick to lead Manchester United to a come from behind 3-2 victory over Southampton at St Mary’s Stadium on Sunday.

The former Arsenal captain did missed a penalty though and another straight forward chance in the second half, but after scoring all the goals for the three points, Manchester United fans surely won’t remember those misses.
Sir Alex Ferguson, managing United in his 1000th game, saw his side going down first with Rickie Lambert climbing over Rafael Da Silva to head home the opener in the 16th minute.
Van Persie got United back on track when he blasted home into the bottom corner from a cross by Antonio Valencia seven-minutes later.
After the break Southampton kept pressing and they got another go-ahead-goal from Morgan Schneiderlin in the 56th minute.
Just before that though, Van Persie missed a good chance at the other end after he was found by Valencia.
Manchester United went on the hunt for goals and the Dutch forward got two of them late to make up for his missed penalty kick in the 69th minute. The third was his 100th in the league.
