(Sporting Alert) – Defender Ryan McGowan is set to leave Hearts and will miss Thursday’s Edinburgh derby clash with Hibernian after the club decided to accept an offer for him from a Chinese club.
The right-back has played a vital part in the Heart defensive third and manager John McGlynn says it will be difficult to replace him.
“Having said that Ryan’s played every minute of every game this season, it’s very difficult to replace him,” McGlynn told www.heartsfc.co.uk.
“It’s not that long ago that Hearts had about five right backs, and we now find ourselves with a wee bit of an issue with that. So we will move the pack around.
“We’ll go with the best options that we’ve got tomorrow night.”
The manager also gave his views about who would possible fill that role now.
“Putting Callum Paterson to right back is an option, but it’s not one that I’m thinking of taking tomorrow night,” he said.
“He did ok there but he’s been moved around and, as I said previously, coming through the youth system he’s played a number of positions.
“Darren Murray utilised him in all sorts of positions so he’s played everywhere and he’s very comfortable in that situation. But it’s not one I’m thinking of taking a chance on tomorrow night.”
In the meantime, Hearts have not reported any new injury concerns, but noted that Danny Grainger and Jamie Hamill (both knee) are still out long-term.
Hibernian, meanwhile, could have defender Ryan McGivern fit for the contest after he returned to training this week.
