Louisville secured its spot in this best-of-three game series after winning Louisville Regional.

The Cardinal had to rally out of the loser’s bracket with three successive wins to take the NCAA Louisville Regional and earned an eighth Super Regional appearance.

Louisville and East Carolina, the former conference rivals in Conference USA from 2002-2005, will be meeting for the 15th time entering today’s Super Regional battle.

The Pirates won 10 straight after losing three of the first four games against Cardinals. Their last meeting came on March 11, 2012 with ECU grabbing a 9-4 win in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

Meanwhile, East Carolina earned its Super Regional place after winning its fifth regional championship title earlier this week, recovering as the top seed in the Greenville Regional.

After dropping the first game of the regional to Quinnipiac, the Pirates were handed the task of winning four games in two days, including coming out of the loser’s bracket to progress.

East Carolina, which captured its first regular season title in The American Athletic Conference, will be making the program’s fifth Super Regional, having done so in 2001, 2004, 2009 and 2016.

The Pirates, who are making their first trip to Jim Patterson Stadium since 2005, are 1-8 all-time in the Super Regional.
